Aunt Jemima and Me

As a little girl growing up in Parma, Ohio I have some very vivid memories of places my folks would take me and my brother out to eat.

One of them was a pancake house and at the door there was a lively woman dressed as Aunt Jemima. I always thought she looked like she would give good hugs!’ I was pretty little and she seemed really big. :)

AuntJemima

I thought it was called Aunt Jemima’s, but I don’t think so…..maybe Uncle John’s????? I have no idea….

When my Mom passed she had a set of cute salt and pepper shakers that were Aunt Jemima and Uncle Mose. I often wondered where she got them! And then looking thru a wonderful book on kitchen collectibles that I have, I saw this ad from 1951…

AJ Pancakes 1

I have always been a huge fan of food company premiums. They are the different items you can save labels, boxtops, etc , add less than a dollar in most cases and you get a fun premium! They were very popular in the 40’s, 50’s 60’s and then again in the 80’s.

So this is where my S&P shakers came from! According to this same book, this is what they can be worth:

AJ Pancakes 2

Yes, that’s right $55-$75.00!!!! Now I don’t think that is accurate, but I am pretty sure mine are in good shape…very little paint loss, and never used that I remember.

And who wouldn’t just LOVE a set of those birthday candle holders!

Here is my set….

AJ5 BACKS

As you can see, they look pretty good! It states on the back of them, Aunt Jemima and Uncle Mose. I wonder if that is suppose to be Moses??? If I have a “mistake” set they could be worth thousands!!!! NOT! I have never used these, and don’t plan to…somehow it seems wrong that a condiment should come out the top of a person’s head! LOL

Do you have some favorite premiums that you have collected over the years? Maybe that would be a good weekly group to start up.! :):)

The name of the book I own is Spiffy Kitchen Collectibles by Brian A. Alexander. I am not sure it is still for sale, but I am sure Amazon would be the place to start looking, or Ebay! :)

Dollhouse Playpen and Baby

The wonderful little playpen, baby and baby toys showed up yesterday!

IMG_1966

Isn’t this so cute? The baby has most of his paint and is in full working order, that is hard to find. The detail is amazing, sorry the photos aren’t real crisp…not the best camera….

IMG_1963

Look at the sweet “beads” on the sides for him to play with! :):)

IMG_1964

And here is a shot to show the detail on the red floor.

IMG_1965

I have seen these in pinks and blues, but never this combo…it wasn’t cheap, but I just love it!!!!! I don’t think the toys are part of this at all, but they sure are cute! :)

My friend Dana and I have come to an agreement about the dollhouse, I should have it over here the first of next week! I am so excited!!!! A summer project!

Thanks for stopping by!!!!!

Dollhouse Furniture

MWSnap 837a

It is time for Rednesaday again and I just love this new graphic that Sue has come up with! :)

Today I am going to share a couple of my favorite red items….first is my sweet little Strawberry Days peg doll that Elizabeth at Creative Breathing made me!

IMG_1934

Isn’t she just the cutest little doll? The chair tht is next to here is a vintage Renwal Dollhouse Furniture Co. It was fromt he late 1950’s early 1960’s I believe….I am buying pieces one a a time to go in my dollhouse….which is another post!

IMG_1931

This is my group so far…..The chair might be from a different scale, as there was 1” and 1/2” dollhouse furniture…. but I love the blue and the red…and that sweet little sewing machine????

IMG_1935

Look at the detail!!! The drawers open, the machine goes down and there is a cover, just like a real machine! The treadle even moves…

IMG_1936

I can’t wait to get these items in a little house. I actaully have a chance to get a handmade Victorian Mansion….but I am keeping quiet about it right now, so I don’t blow the deal! :)

IMG_1933

And of course, who could for get Scottie????? Isn’t he just the perfect pooch?

I recently won a baby, a playpen and another rocker in an EBay auction….they are also all of the red/yellow colors. Renwal came out with multiples color combos, but of course this fits me to a “T” !

Thanks for stopping by and if you click on the first photo you will go to Sue’s blog so you can enjoy all of the other red goodies!

My One Little Word….DO

Back in January I did a post about “One Little Word”, mine was “DO”…so again I have decided to get serious learning to drive horses.

My dear friend Dana Moore is a very accomplished horsewoman. Her passion the last few years had been learning to drive and compete Haflinger Ponies in competitions.

pretty ponies

This is Dana, on the left Carbon and on the right Ditto. Aren’t they the prettiest ponies?????

Dana is giving me lessons with Ditto…..this is our objective:

GRidge0810_25_13[1]

I started this week and I am loving it, after the sun goes down it is almost pleasant ( I said almost )…it is so foreign to be behind the horse when you have ridden all your life. But I am getting there and Ditto is a very patient boy!

I find when my world starts getting too small, going out to the horses is like a shot in the arm of B12…I become renewed…..

So wish me luck….I will probably not be posting for a few days now… enjoy the rest of the photos!
